jerry sandusky was let off too easily - his crimes were minimalized by his sentence
i served on a jury that sentenced one poorly-represented man to 12 years in prison for rape. i fought in the jury room to get the minimum sentence, 12 years, down from a possible 30 years, since in my mind it was a drugs for sex kind of deal. the majority of the jurors didn’t believe the plaintiff’s story, but, since the defendant was a drug dealer, they decided to penalize him for that, not on the merits of the rape charge. the plaintiff was a liar, and the defendant’s lawyer was next to incompetent as a public defender. i felt awful afterwards for giving into peer pressure — it was my first jury duty call. it wasn’t rape, but it was a resonating, hard look at the jury system for the poor in this country.
jerry sandusky, guilty of 45 counts of sexual abuse to minors, is given 30 years minimum? WTF. his sentence should have been a clarion call for other sexual predators who’ve been protected FOR DECADES by their bosses, their institutions, their peers, their family and their friends. shame.
let’s hope the victims of jerry sandusky’s rape go for the financial throats of all those involved in this heinous, unprecedented cover up, big time, through the civil courts.
